The Reluctant Organist website was setup in order to help beginning organists deal with the tremendous workload and pressure that being a church organist can bring.
Being under-confident in an environment where there are often “self appointed experts” is a situation that many inexperienced players find too stressful to cope with – and eventually they stop playing altogether.
This is a great shame but completely understandable given the difficulty and challenges of being a church organist.
Perhaps with more help and encouragement, including a modest financial reward, more congregations would be singing along with a live organist rather than a karaoke machine.
